We are three women making music.
Our collective has, over the years, collaborated as duos in various formations.
Xenia and Franziska recently played together in Brazil at Inhotim, one of Brazil’s largest contemporary outdoor art galleries.
Lauren and Franziska have worked together during the ‘Big Ears 2013‘ event, and Xenia and Lauren played together at the ICMC conference in Huddersfield and at INTER/actions in Bangor.

Lauren Sarah Hayes – Hybrid Analogue / Digital Electronics / Improvisation / Composition
Lauren is a composer/performer/improviser who specialises in creating musical instruments and performances by engaging with new technologies. Since 2012 she has been an associate of the New Radiophonic Workshop and she is currently supported by Serious’ Air Time artistic development scheme for jazz musicians living in Scotland. She recently performed with Edimpro on BBC’s Jazz on 3 at the Edinburgh Festival, but she enjoys a wide range of musical outputs ranging from performances at electronic dance music festivals such as Norberg (Sweden) as well as giving concerts within contemporary classical settings. Hayes has three albums to date, and her most recent work was released by LA-based netlabel Absence of Wax. She recently completed a PhD in live electronic music at the University of Edinburgh.
Xenia Pestova – Piano / Toy Piano / Improvisation / Composition
Xenia is a pianist and improviser with an unusual and colourful profile. As a dedicated promoter of music by living composers, she has commissioned, premiered, recorded and broadcast numerous new works, and is a frequent collaborator on the creation of interdisciplinary projects with new technologies. CDs include “Shadow Piano” on Innova and John Cage: “Works for Two Keyboards” (three CDs) and Stockhausen’s “Mantra” for Naxos. She is Head of Performance at the Bangor University School of Music in North Wales, where she directors the INTER/actions festival for interactive electronic music, and a Schoenhut Toy Piano Concert Artist.
Franziska Schroeder – Saxophone / Improvisation / Composition
Franziska is an improvisor and saxophonist with a huge interest in experimental music and extended techniques on the saxophone.
Franziska has performed with many international musicians including Joan La Barbara, Pauline Oliveros, Stelarc, the Avatar Orchestra, Carin Levine, Chris Brown, Tom Arthurs and Evan Parker.
She has published several CDs on the Creative Source Label, a recording on the SLAM label with a semi-autonomous technological artifact, guitarist Han-earl Park and saxophonist Bruce Coates, and has released a recording on ‘Buster and Friends’ (digital download). Her forthcoming album of free improvised music from Brazil “Barely Cool” will be released later this year on pfmentum (physical and digital download).
Franziska recently completed a prestigious 6 months Professor Sir Ron Cooke HEA Fellowship working as a free improviser and ethnographer in Brazil during 2014. Apart from being a busy saxophonist and improviser, she heads up the Queen’s University School of Arts Events Committee and lectures in Performance, Improvisation and Critical Theory at the Sonic Arts Research Center, in Belfast.
